Editor's blog Friday 4 March 2011: Sally Gainsbury appointed Chief Medical Officer

In a bizarre administrative mix-up, former HSJ news editor and indefatigable data diva Sally Gainsbury has been appointed DH Chief Medical Officer. Meanwhile, the Financial Times data investigations team prepares to welcome deputy CMO Sally Davies next week.

A DH spokesman said, "we were assured that the MTAS software had been fully de-bugged: obviously not so. However, when you look at NHS Connecting For Health, I think we can spin this as a triumph".

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley's hair was unavailable for comment.
